Soldier Beam Tie-Backs, US 69 Highway Owner: Kansas Department of Transportation Dwight D. Eisenhower State Office Building 700 S.W. Harrison Street Topeka, KS 66603-3754 General Contractor: Clarkson Construction Company 9133 Gardner Ave Kansas City MO 61120
Description: US-69 in Johnson County Kansas was being widened and realigned for more optimal traffic flow. Due to right of way constraints, it was necessary for KDOT to construct several retaining walls. The retaining walls were anchored solder beam and lagging walls with a cast in place facing. The Judy Company was contracted by Clarkson Construction Company to install the tieback anchors and install shotcrete for the temporary lagging between the solder beams. The tieback anchors were drilled through overburden into the underlying limestone. The shotcrete lagging was used in lieu of wood lagging as the shotcrete was lower in installed cost than the wood and is more durable. |
